We regularly evaluate our business processes, striving to make them more convenient and streamlined for our clients. That includes everything from order placement and communication to post-development service.

One of the business aspects that we have always kept in the spotlight is project development pricing. In this respect, we have some great news to share with you. After thoroughly revising our approach to the development of different kinds of projects, we have come up with a new pricing structure: flat hourly rates.

In this post, we want to explain what exactly has changed and what it means for our clients.

Our New Project Development Pricing Structure

Previously, we priced each project development stage and each task within the stages separately and then added up all the numbers to shape the final project cost.

For example, a typical WordPress project includes the frontend stage, the JavaScript stage, the WordPress stage proper, and the QA stage. The PM hours are also included. Each stage is further broken down into specific tasks. Up until recently, we put a price on each of the stages (frontend, JS, and WP) and tasks within a stage.

As a result of our recent efforts to optimize the development process, however, we have changed the way we price projects. Now, instead of pricing every project task and stage, we price the entire project based on a flat hourly rate for a particular service (Shopify, WordPress, Drupal, etc.).

Take a look at WordPress, for example.

Stage Hourly Rates (Before)

Single Flat Hourly Rate (Now)

Frontend stage

$37

$39

JS stage

$42

WP stage

$47

As you see, we used to divide the WordPress development price into three individual rates. Now, it is just a single hourly rate that encompasses those stage rates internally.

The Prices Are Down Up to 20%!

Here is the cherry on top. After the development process enhancement, we applied the new pricing structure to some projects that we estimated on a stage-by-stage basis in the past. And you know what? We discovered that the overall cost of a project priced using a flat hourly rate has dropped from 5% to 20% on average!

Thus, our clients can save quite a bit compared to the previous pricing structure. Let’s go over some of our common services to explain what has changed and how much less you can spend from now on.

Frontend Development

This service assumes creating HTML/CSS markups from designs (PSD, Figma, AI, XD, etc.) and adding some interactive features to them with vanilla JavaScript or JQuery without using JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue (those are separate services priced differently).

A frontend project is normally divided into two main stages: frontend and JS. In the past, we priced those separately:

Frontend: $37 per hour

JS: $42 per hour

After revising our approach to frontend development, we now charge a single flat hourly rate of $33. That means that frontend development may now cost you up to 20% less than before on average.

WordPress Development

A typical WordPress project consists of three stages: frontend, JS, and WP. Up until recently, we charged $37, $42, and $47 per hour for each stage respectively. Now, there is one flat hourly rate for a WP project: $39. Thus, you can spend 10% less on average than you used to.

Drupal Development

Drupal projects are usually handled in three stages: frontend, JS, and Drupal. Previously, each stage cost our clients $37, $42, and $49 per hour correspondingly. Now, we have a single flat hourly rate of $42, which brings the cost of an average Drupal project down up to 5%.

Shopify Development

Shopify development stands aside from the other services as far as the project breakdown is concerned, so we only had one hourly rate of $50 for Shopify projects before. However, after evaluating and changing the way we approach Shopify development, we registered a price drop of up to 5% on average. The flat hourly rate for Shopify projects is now $47.

The PM and QA Rates Are Down Too

One final thing. Every project assumes the involvement of two important people: a project manager and quality assurance expert (or experts).

A PM makes sure that the team meets your project specifications in full and you get your project delivered on time. A QA professional tests the final product to guarantee its quality.

After the development process optimization and introduction of flat rates, we managed to reduce the PM and QA hourly rates as well. While we charged $45 for one PM hour before, now the rate is only $40. One QA hour cost $26, while now it is $25.

We would like to emphasize that the new way we handle projects has impacted neither the quality of our services nor turnaround times in any way.

With our new approach to project development and revised pricing structure, we have made another big step toward providing the best client experience. More to come. Stay tuned!

Some breaking news here!
